ZigBee is a wireless communication technology developed as an extension to WLAN (IEEE 802.11) and Bluetooth (IEEE 802.15.1). Its purpose is to connect sensors and household devices over short distances ranging from 10 to 100 meters. This standard specifically focuses on wireless personal area networks with low data rates. The frequency range is 2.4 GHz, similar to WLAN and Bluetooth.
