Glossary Page
The container orchestration layer is responsible for providing an API and interfaces to define, deploy, and manage containers' lifecycle. It comprises several components, including etcd, API Server, Scheduler, Controller Manager, and Cloud Controller Manager, among others. These components can be run either as traditional operating system services or as containers. Historically, the hosts running these components were referred to as masters.
