The Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) is a specification for cable modem interfaces and associated peripherals developed by Cable Labs circa 1997 and ratified by the ITU (ITU-T Recommendation J.112) in March 1998. DOCSIS is a broadband cable network standard that specifies requirements for data transmissions. The main application of DOCSIS is in high-speed data transmission over existing cable television networks.
