According to the CAP theorem, the fundamental principle of microservices design, a distributed system can fulfill only two out of the three main objectives: consistency, availability, and partition tolerance. It emphasizes that achieving all three goals simultaneously is not feasible, and even accomplishing more than one of these qualities can be challenging.
